Invitations: Julia and Dan

Here's another wedding suite I finished recently, in a color scheme I really enjoy: grey and yellow. For a summer wedding, using yellow is a fun choice, but I think the neutral grey really helps keep things fresh and modern. Julia and Dan are young, fun and friendly - so of course their stationery has to reflect it!

I wanted to use clean typefaces to keep the suite looking crisp and bright - but I included little script accents for that whimsical, outdoor, breeze-in-your-hair feel. I was concerned with using yellow ink for readability purposes, so I paired that text with a grey shadow (and the yellow ink ended up printing beautifully, thanks to my friends at the printshop).

The branches are hand-drawn by moi, in a rough 6B pencil line - which I think contrasts nicely with the thin, straight border lines.

The responses are postcards, with a little text box on the mailing side to write in your own address. I also wanted to use more informal copy since, like I said, this is a friendly couple. I think friends and family can just hear the bride saying "We like you. Come to our wedding." The thank-you notes take on that same personality:

I think these invitations give you the best kind of attitude for a wedding: "this is going to be fun, we want you to be there!" Taking a more conversational approach to the way you select invitation wording can be a little risky, but if your guests know and love you, it can be a really wonderful, personal touch.

Invitations: Abbie and Matt, and The Wedding Chicks

Today we are recapping the rest of Abbie and Matt's stationery suite - you might remember it from back in March. Here's another look:

Well, today I'm posting Part II - the accessories, but I have a little extra news about this wedding: it is featured today on The Wedding Chicks bridal blog!

There are a few things I'd love to highlight here, before we dive in:
  • Abbie created most of this beautiful wedding with a special flair for DIY. She did it better than an expensive boutique or custom ordered.
  • Abbie has impeccable taste.
  • The photographer for this wedding, Haley Sheffield, is a rockstar behind the camera.
  • Haley submitted Abbie's wedding to The Wedding Chicks.
  • The Wedding Chicks has quickly become one of my new favorite bridal blogs. Great design, great features, great images.

You can find the full set of images/details for this wedding in three places:
1) Haley's photography blog
2) The Wedding Chicks post
3) HERE.

Let's start with my images of the accessories:

Now here are some of Haley's images from the wedding:

And don't forget, there are many more images of the whole wedding on Haley's website and the feature on The Wedding Chicks. Everything about this wedding was beautiful - the decor, the dress, the flowers. I'd definitely recommend giving it the once-over... and be prepared to get stuck swooning over these images for an hour! Congrats to Abbie and Matt and Haley Sheffield. I'm so glad I got to be a part of this beautiful collaboration!

The Not Wedding 2011

Do you know what The Not Wedding is?

If you live in Atlanta, you might have heard a thing or two around town about this awesome transformation of a normal "bridal expo." While the result is still the same for brides (they see things they love and meet the vendors who can provide them) it's very different in experience. Instead of walking into a crowded convention center, guests will arrive at Ambient + Studio for what will look like, for all intents and purposes, a wedding.

You will receive your paper invitation in the mail (after you buy your tickets and register online, of course!), arrive at 5:45 on July 21st, and sit down for the "Not Wedding" Ceremony of the Not Bride and Groom! You'll get to see a wedding gown on a real Not Bride, bridesmaids dresses on real Not Bridesmaids. You'll get to ooh and aah at the design, make a mental list of must-have accessories, and drool at a real wedding cake - that you actually get to eat! You will get to sit down and enjoy a catered meal made lovingly by Sun in My Belly, dance at the reception, pose for professional pictures and drag your friends into The Guest Box!

Brides, come with one of your maids. Moms, come with your daughters. Girls, come with your friends. Guys, come with your fiances (for the food, of course). Single guys... come to pick up some chicks - see, it is like a real wedding! Tickets are $40 - for all the food, fun, dancing and dessert you'll enjoy it's worth it!

The theme for this Not Wedding is Frosted Poetry, a gorgeous premise utilizing neutrals and metallics, vintage accents and details, perfect for brides who will attend the event looking for inspiration for their fall and winter weddings. To take a look at the different vendors for this year's Not Wedding, visit the Tunnel of Love. For Groupon-style coupons provided by Not Wedding vendors and preferred businesses, go ahead and Snag the Swag!

If you want to be sure and receive a paper invitation (ahem... yours truly made quite a few of them... ) prior to the event, register online before July 10th. The whole Not Wedding team this summer has put all the bells and whistles on this event so go ahead and get on board! Be there.. or don't... but we'll have more fun with you!
